In order to implement full repair works on the damaged segments of the main gas pipeline, a special unit created by Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) with the help of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has rehabilitated three segments of the pipeline.
Currently 1000mm Kazakh-Saguramo main gas pipeline located in the landslide-prone zone near the Jvari Monastery is being shifted, the works are to complete in late August.
For the moment, East-West main Gas Pipeline and Shiris Khevi segment anti-corrosion protection work have successfully been completed; 140 meter Pipeline Bridge has been built on the river Lochini to ensure stable functioning of Karadag-Tbilisi main gas pipeline. In addition, underground pass has been built on Kaspi Branch of the East West main gas pipeline and block valves have been installed on the River Lekhura.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) purchased and transferred to Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) 5 million Dollar worth construction equipment. It facilitated GOGC to create a special construction service, responsible for implementing repair works on the damaged sections of the gas pipeline that GOGC has been implementing for already several months. The unit employs 20 highly qualified workers.
